Fixed Force Stainless Steel Compression Gas Struts

Our most popular gas strut – the ‘Swift and Sure’ – is also available in stainless steel. This makes them ideally suited for use in harsh environments, such as access doors to offshore wind turbines, marine engine covers, doors, hatches, plus applications requiring high levels of cleanliness like the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries.

What do fixed force stainless steel compression gas struts do?

Manufactured in 316L grade stainless steel, these gas springs have been subjected to more than 1,000 hours of salt spray testing. They are made with a specially‐prepared chrome‐plated rod surface finish for additional hardness. These products are corrosion‐resistant, providing reassurance of durability and an improved lifecycle of each product.

Designed to lift heavy weights effortlessly and safely, the Swift and Sure range are found on vehicles, machine guards, access panels, lockers and lids. But there is an almost limitless number of applications this range can be used on.

How do fixed force stainless steel compression gas struts work?

If it needs to be lifted, held open or counterbalanced in a specialised environment, this is likely the spring you need. It has the characteristics of a compression spring which, coupled with a small change in force as it extends, provides a controlled rate of movement. At the end of the extension stroke, the extension speed is slowed by an oil damping zone. These features help protect hinges and mounts by applying constant force with a damped end of travel.

The use of 316L stainless steel lends itself to a host of demanding applications and environments with their own unique requirements. Stainless steel gas struts are less restricted by the manufacturing process, which allow for more design freedom to create much larger (or indeed smaller) gas struts to be manufactured, for example struts over 2m in length can be produced. Food grade oil are commonly specified where springs are to be used in food manufacturing environments. Similarly, non-magnetic materials can be incorporated in applications, such as those found in the medical sector, where this is necessary for MR and X-Ray application uses.
